Smoked Mackerel Dip

Smoked Mackerel Dip. This recipe was passed on recently to me by a friend and in a relatively short period of time, I have since made it on multiple occasions. I had tasted it at a function she hosted and was blown away by the subtle flavours and great taste. I think it’s nice to serve a homemade dip for nibbles when you have people over, for something a bit special. Most dips can be made in less than 10 minutes so it’s very quick to prepare.


Use light cream cheese to make this dip extra healthy. Serve it with strips of chopped vegetables such as cucumber, carrot or bell pepper or with some crackers or rice biscuits. If you have any leftovers, this dip is super yummy in a sandwich, wrap or roll with thinly sliced cucumber (or in fact any salad items).

Smoked Mackerel Dip



  • 75 g (3 oz) smoked mackerel, flaked with a fork
  • 150 g (5 oz) cream cheese
  • 2 tsp. horse radish
  • Squeeze lemon juice
  • ½ tsp. paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste


  1. Mix all ingredients well. (Add more or less of any of the ingredients according to your personal taste)

Cooking Tips

  • You can substitute the Mackerel for Smoked Trout.
